I recently came across a used Pioneer car radio/tape deck for sale at
the goodwill, for $2.50. It looks like a fairly nice one, so I thought
I'd grab it and see if I can't make something of it.

My problem is this: This particular radio seems to be a type that is
designed to be very easily removable. There is a button on the front
that flips up a handle that is used to pull out the whole radio from its
mounting. The problem is that I'm assuming that it's designed to fit
into a special bracket, and I don't have that bracket. So, I'd like to
find the pinout of the connector on the back of the radio. It kind of
reminds me of a female centronics connector, but it's not. It's either
10 or 20 pins (not sure whether the top row is connected to the bottom
row or not). Does anyone have this info? Thanks in advance.

I hope this helps you out, and in my opinion, you got a great deal and an
easy stereo
to hard wire. I did the same thing to a KE-1800QR for my wifes van. She
loves it.

Great deal? debatable. The cage if you order a new one is probably 50 to 75
Dollars US.
The 1700's I have seen have had terminal tape mech problems with heavy use.
Trying to mount one without the cage is rube goldberg at best. When ever I See
a stereo with
wires soldered on (usually half ass) to pull out connectors come into the
store, I usually politely
show them the door.

If you can overcome the mounting obstacles and the mech. is intact, the more
power to ya.
If you buy a new cage and have to repair the unit, it is more than its worth. I
have also seen
the pull out plug fail on the chassis of this model. Good luck with your new
toy.

from what ive seen of most of those pullouts without the cage is that they've
been ripped off from someone somewhere down the line...
