IMO, , , , NTE stands for a variety of things:
New Taiwanese Exports
Now Terribly Expensive
Not Tough Enough
Never Touch Electricity
Despite my apparent attitude toward NTE, I will admit that they
are just as handy as having a rubber in your wallet. When you
really need to use one, your glad their available!

How many others are there? (I drive an Olds.)
I have very vague memories from my first solid-state stereo days years
ago that NTE stood for New Tone Electronics. Anybody else recall if this
was it?

I couldn't say what NTE stands for, but "New Tone Electronics" does sound
like it. I saw an ad for them in an old magazine recently, and I was
surprised to find an actual series of words rather than just "NTE".
The magazine must have been at least twenty years ago, and my reaction
to seeing the ad (and I've had the magazine since it was new) was
surprise that the company had been around for so long. Just goes
to show you how much you can miss.
I can't remember which magazine it was, so I'm not going to look it up,
but seeing "New Tone Electronics" in your post sure seems familiar.
Besides, Gary Tait says the same thing as verification.

Is it possible that Philips ECG is an abbreviation for Philips
Electronic Components Group? Just a guess, or is it a dim
recollection?
