Using the John Morrison or Leading edge smartcard programmer with windows software

Hello
 
Has anyone got any experience of using this programmer with say Pony prog, ICprog or winprog ? I have used this programmer for programming pics with PIX113 for some time now and find it works great(instead of the old program it comes with prog.com)
I cannot seem to make any progress with "gold type cards" even though I have used the loader first. It is rather a shame to shelve the programmer as it is very well made and has served me well.
 
Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
