I have a problem with a UK Pal VCR -Panasonic NV-HD610 video,the
original problem was that a tape stuck in the machine, with an error
code of F06,I managed to extract said tape by removing the tape
ejection mechanism, thinking that was the problem solved I reassembled
the video, now as soon as the tape is inserted and accepted into the
video it ejects it straight away, without the video wrapping arms even
moving. If I take the tape eject mech out and obscure the right hand
side ir pickup the tape wrapping arms work, and I can manually put a
tape in to the video and it works as normal,ie the wrap arms work the
video head kicks into life,I can use all the tape transportbuttons
etc, does this point to the eject mech being faulty,or could it be the
left hand ir pickup that is kaput?anybody any ideas

Check the belts. You may have some that are warn, slipping, or
broken. You can also have a bad sensor, connection to the sensing
system, or a logic problem, for the tape loading.

Thanks for your reply Jerry,To be honest I have Just managed to fix
it,but how I am not quite sure how,( more luck than judgement,I
think)but I still appear to have a residual problem, insofar that when
I rewind a tape it slows down as it approached 00:00 as it is supposed
too but it doesnt appear to SEE the end of the tape, although the Ir
pickup for the rewind must be working because this is the one I was
blocking earlier when I was spoofing into thinking a tape was
present, anyway what happens then is that the rewind arrows stop on,
the tape gets to the end of its travel (arrows still on)then a lot of
clicking occurs, has another go at rewinding the eventually comes to a
halt, all other functions inc FF and FF tape end work ok,to me this
sounds like a ir or system logic problem, anybody got any (more) ideas

TIA

Richard...

This uses the Panasonic 'K' mechanism I think. I was fixing one of
those last week.

1. Have you correctly aligned the eject mechanism with the circular
gears which it mates to? If you remove the metal plate on the bottom
of the VCR, you'll find they helpfully printed an alignment diagram
on the plastic! It's a little cryptic, and shows the position for
a tape that is seated fully into the mechanism, but with the tape
not yet pulled from the cassette around the drum. In particular,
in this position only the very last tooth of the rack on the
eject mechanism is in contact with the little metal gear, and it's
under some spring pressure as it does so. If misaligned, the
mechanism will jam when loading, and the micro will detect this
and eject the tape again.
2. This mechanism has a common failure, causing F code errors. The
loading motor (small DC motor under deck, at the front) has a little
plastic 'collar' which is a press fit onto its shaft. This has a
tendency to split, causing loss of torque and becomes unable to
move the mechanism (especially the eject phase).
3. This VCR is one where the opto sensors are confused by ambient
light. Particularly on the right. I place a magazine over the
right hand side of the mechanism while working on it.

Best Regards,
Mike. (Southampton)
