Not long ago the power to my home went off for a few seconds and then
returned....Now my receivers' "surround" functions are not working and
it has lost the left channel audio. Does anyone know what this might
cost to repair? Perhaps it is time to buy a new one?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Tony

I would suspect that someting in the output stage has blown. This can
happen. It is usualy the main output IC or transistors depending on
the design of the amp...

Without proper evaluation it is hard to tell the cost of the repair.
In most cases the output IC's can run from about $30.00 up to about
$80.00 dending on the type... The labour can be from about 1.0 to 3
hours depending on what damage and other parts are involved as well...

It may be that the micro has been disrupted...turn it off...pull the
plug...leave it for awhile...plug it in...turn it back on...if there
is no change, it is likely that it'll have to be taken to a repair
shop, unless you can troubleshoot an electronics circuit. Power
disruption failures are unkind, because their results are
unpredictable...

Does this happen on all inputs? It sounds to me like you have a patch
cable problem. Surround sound processors have to have a stereo signal to
work with. If the receiver is not getting both channels of audio from
your TV or other source, there can be no surround sound output. Good
luck,
