I want to hook up a Sony CDX-70 Compact Disc Changer to a Sony
XR-7070 Car Stereo, but are missing the UNILINK-cable to connect
these two together (I want to make my own cable that is).

I do have the complete service manuals for the both of them, but
as the line configuration are somewhat confusing, I'm not sure how
to do this correct.

For instance: there are two datalines (in and out) from the Car Stereo,
but the changer only support one (?).

I do believe that these two components should be able to work together.

So, does anyone know the pin assignment for a Sony UNILINK-cable?

Greetings, Jørn

The XR-7070 is pre-Unilink. You need to use a pre-Unilink CD changer
with it. That would be any Sony CD changer with CDX-Axx where the xx is
some number. The main difference is the A in the model #.

A Unilink device uses an 8-pin ISO DIN connector while the old standard
used a 13-pin DIN. The two are incompatible. There once was an adaptor
to use the CDX-A series changers with Unilink stereos, but I don't think
there was ever one to go the other way around.

I have the following pin outs from sony service manual.

pin 1/2 - reset
pin 3 - SIRCS Switch
pin4 -bus Clock
pin5 -bus Data
pin6 -bus On Switch
pin7 -+ Positive (Batt)
pin8 -Ground

Pins 1/2 either pin 1 is connected in the circuit in the radio or otherwise
pin 2 is connected . they are not together.

I think if u make a cord exactly from pin1 to pin1 ,and so on, I think it
should work!

This is the best I can do.

pins are counted looking at the front view of the connector.
Pin 1 starting at bottom right.

--- --- ---
6 5 4
---- ----
8 7
--- --- ---
3 2 1

end.

Does the service manual give any more details as to the function of
each pin or does it just name them? What I'm really after is the
following:

I have a Sony XRC190 (AM/FM Cassette with unilink CD controls) and
want to use the unilink audio in (RCA) jacks for connecting a portable
CD player (no $ for a changer). I think the head unit disables the cd
audio in unless it "sees" a changer connected. Any thoughts on how I
can do want I want? TIA,

Curt Weller

Hi Curt,
You are correct. The way they work is that you can't use the input if
nothing is connected to it,ie.a changer,tv tuner,etc.
Hope this helps.

Peace and tunes,
Larry
