AST does not offer a file that resets bios anymore. I was able to find
it though, its called 05563031.exe. It does NOT provide for setting
HDD sizes, as far as I know anyway.
Thanks a real big bunch for any help on this:)

Sounds like your CMOS went flaky. I had an AST Premium 286 that did
that once, locked up when you tried to enter drive type 48.
That sounds like a WD Pirahna drive, 212 megabytes. If you are
uncertain which drive manufacturer, go to www.shareware.com and search
for IDEID or IDE identify, and download an IDE identify program. Run
it from a floppy and see who manufactured your drive.
If it was Western Digital, Seagate, Quantum, or Maxtor (there is one
other, I think), then you are in luck. Go to the manufacturer's
website and download Disk Manager.
You should be able to set the drive type from Disk Manager, or at
least establish a workaround for the stuck BIOS. You may have to
reformat (DOS format) the disk, though.
You could also go to AST's website, and download the SETUP.COM file
for the AST Premium-286 or Premium-386. I've used that setup program
to define drive types in COMPAQs and other 386 and some early 486
machines. The basic drive type info is always in the same location in
any CMOS, although some store additional info in custom addresses.
If you don't get immediate satisfaction from SETUP.COM, try Disk
Manager.
If you can't find Disk Manager, search the Web for Fast FTP Search, go
to the Fast FTP Search site, and search for DM6 or DM7. If that
fails, search there for Seagate. There's a couple of sites that have
all five Disk Managers, and Seagate is one of the file directories.
Go to the Seagate page, then go to its Parent Directory page, and WD,
Quantum, and Maxtor should be there.
If you still can't find it, go to my index.htm page below and send me
a note, and I'll see if I can get it for you.
