You can try turning down the red drive a little to compensate, but it's not
a fix. I don't know what kind of monitor it is or the age, but the pink tint
your described sure can be a weak crt, and that's about the end of the line
for most older monitors.

Or it could be one of the 200 componants on the video board! Does it get
better of worsen the longer it is on? If you smack the monitor does it
get better? Are the windows on your screen smearing? What kind of monitor
is it? How old is it? How long is it on daily?

I had one the other day that was dark and no green, magenta in
color...it was a drive transistor, not the CRT. The CRT's are a
problem in some monitors, though, for sure.

Could be anything from a bad connection (very likely - does gentle whacking
have any effect or was it erratic until it died completely?) to an actual
bad green gun (but this is probably less likely than an electronic problem).

See the monitor repair guide at the site below.

It's probably the tube, an RGB driver, or a bad solder connection from the
sound of things. But there is probably a reason why he expects the tube.

Makes you wish you could have some of the units people ask for help with,
zapped unto your bench for a quick check out, but we can't. I thought he
meant that he suspected the tube, and he wondered what could be done about
it if it is. It's been a long day :)
