Hi,
Anybody who knows where I can find replacement for my '70s speakers with
rottening foam surroundings? I will need to replace not only the foam
because I beleive the coils are not to good any longer either.
The 8-ohms 8" woofers are marked "R80G-427R". No brand name found.
I would appreciate any tip.

Best regards
Hans

There are many sources of replacement speakers. Unless you are extremely
fussy, go find a speaker that fits and is 8 ohms and will handle the power.

Even Radio Shack has replacement woofers. Or, an electronics service
parts supplier like MCM Electronics. If you go to an audio salon, you'll
probably pay 10 times as much to restore a speaker system that isn't worth
the expense.

http://www.partsexpress.com/ Check out this place. They deal mostly in
speakers.

Why do you think the coils are bad? If you do a web search, you will find more
places you can get foam, than you would ever want to know. I have used
Parts Express though.

They carry parts for EPI speakers (I own an old pair, thankfully the foam is
still good on my EPI 100 woofers) that have rotted foam.

The foam suspensions can usually be fixed. If the coils are bad, you may be
able to repair them also. Many times the coil wires have a loose solder
joint that can be repaired if it is near a connection outside the main body
of the coil.

Of course, if you have cheap speakers to begin with, they may not be worth
the effort. Most speakers are junk; the enclosures are usually more
valuable that the speakers inside.
