sony camcorder 7.4v lithium batteries

how do i get these new range of camcorders to power-up from a bench psu?
i've tried the set-up in the service manual, i.e apply 8.4 v but after a
few secs the warning "for info lithium battery only" appears in the evf.
even using the correct sony battery lead. gordon

Ground the serial data connection for the battery.

It makes the unit think that the AA battery accessory is attached.
