I have seen audio amps that needed expensive repairs due to power
surges. As a result, I would like to build an audio amp designed to
blow only the fuse(s) if a power surge occurs.

Would appreciate any suggestions or links to info on how to achieve
this.

Thanks,

Gene

You could put a crowbar on the power supply, but you still might lose
part of the PS if the surge were big enough.

You think a fuse can protect against a power surge?
Fuses are there to protect against a fire.

The only device I have ever seen is the K1V24 used in Pioneer LD players and
others, but they eventually break down from normal surges and short
completely meaning they need a replacement. Then try finding one for less
than $15.

Crowbar shunt to ground or a MOV across the ac line should do the trick.
