On powerup, at a really acute angle, you can just make out the display.
I've checked the obvious
-battery
-zebra strips
-display (using a differant meter)
-solder connections
Is this a common problem?
Can freezing a LCD display cause this (or other) display problem?
Does Fluke sell parts for these meters or are they "disposable"?
I'm fixing the meter for an old prof, and would really like to get it
back to him.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Remove the screws from the back as Frank says and carefully remove the
LCD glass. You will see the etched strips at the bottom that rest against
a piece that looks like an eraser, clean the LCD glass with the end of a
pencil eraser and then clean with alcohol. DO NOT use rubbing alcohol,
since this contain glycerin and will leave a coating on the terminals.
I've use this technique on Fluke 86's and 87's with success. Good Luck.

I purchased a replacement display for an 8020 from Fluke and believe it
or not, the price wasn't too awful bad. It's at least worth a call and
if I'm not mistaken they might have an 800#. I'd call 800 information.
