Hi all,
I have a problem with my CDX-M50 car-Cd player. The pioneer CD-player
checks at the beginning, when a new magazine with 6 CD's is put in, if
all the trays are occupied with a CD. But mine doesn't allways
reconize then, even if there is a CD in the tray. Very often it
doesn't reconize a CD at all and so these CD's can't be accessed by
the Car-radio. So I have about 18 or 20 CD's (of my about 150
CD-collection) that I can listen to in my car...
For me, it sounds like a Laser-usage problem, but it was replaced
about one and a half of a year ago (If they really replaced it?!). But
if the player reconize a CD and plays it, the player nearly never
"jumps" ( last time was about 3 months ago that I can remember), so
that my theory doesn't match, because if it was a fault of the laser,
the player should jump more often... I also tried to clean the player,
but it helped only a few days.
Before the laser-unit was replaced, one and a half year ago, the
player had the same problems of reconizing CD's, but it also jumped
often, so that I think, it is a different problem this time. But it
the mean time it worked really greatly, without problems, until the
problems reappered....
Schematics could also help.....
Can someone please help me, or give me some good advise, what to do,
our how to repair (replace of the Laser-unit...???).
Thanks in advance ....

Are you saying that it rejects an entire magazine? The common Pioneer
components changers will cycle through each of the possible 6 discs to
find any that are present.
Is it always the same CDs that are rejected?
See the CD Repair FAQ for additional info. This still sounds like a
mechanical problem - possibly just with recognizing the cartridge.

I had this same problem with a Pioneer DRM-602 CD-ROM changer. (two weeks out of warranty) Pioneer Tech.
Support sent a letter to a regional service center, and they repaired it anyway. I'm not sure but I think it
was an alignment or focus problem. Interestingly enough, it wouldn't read my Microsoft CD's (NT Server,
TechNet, ETC.) but would read almost all others. It might help to call Pioneer.....

There ARE some CD's that are always rejected, but some CD's are also
rejected after the initial check, or if the player reconized the CD
and when I try to change to an other one, it happens that the player
won't reconize it anymore. Normaly the initial check is the part the
most difficult....

I have six cartidges, because I have also a Pioneer CD-Changer at
home. So I tried a lot, but it doesn't work better with an other
cartidge.

Check the disks that usually dont work. look at the outside edge of the
disk. most disks have a sharp, flat outer edge. the pioneer cd
changers, and some of the new sony units have problems dealing with disks
that have rounded outer edges. the disk does'nt line up properly with
the spindle when the disk loads. if this seems to be the problem, take
it to an authorized pioneer repair center for a service upgrade.
pioneer is aware of this problem, and any good service technition
should be able to upgrade the necessary parts.

Does anybody know more about this service upgrade, so I could tell the
service technition about it, if he doesn't know something about this
problem.....

not to be rude, but anyone who REALLY IS an authorized warranty repair
teck for sony or pioneer should be all too familiar with this problem
already. the manufacturers have a system where they send out service
bullitins to all of their authorized repair centers as soon as they
become aware of such a problem. this particular bullitin has been out
for several months.
