The speaker has gone very quiet in the handset of my Audioline tel 18
telephone. When I pick up the handset I hear the normal dial tone,
but it quickly fades to almost inaudible volume.

The rest of the phone appears to be working - people on the other end
of the line can hear me no problem. Also I am convinced it is a fault
in the phone - I get the same problem when it is plugged into another
socket but another telephone in the house works fine.

I had a look inside and couldn't see anything obviously blown. Switch
cleaner didn't help matters.

Any suggestions?

Martin

You would have to be able to troubleshoot the audio circuits for a failed
component(s). This is not an easy task in these phones unless you are
very skilled in this field, have the service info, and also the tools to
do this type of work.

I have experienced this with an audioline phone, it was a dirty contact
on the hookswitch. If the hookswitch is an open type try scrubbing the
surfaces with some emery paper or something.

I found that problem in an International cordless phone. It was a cracked
solder joint in the handset unit.
