JVC CD problems

JVC XL-V330 single CD player is not recognizing my CD's. The problem
first began as an intermittent one but eventually became worse.

I have cleaned the lens, checked for movement of the lens - both
forward and back as well as up and down for focus, which all checks
out. That's the extent of my abilities to trouble shoot.

Here's the strange thing: Although it will NOT play any commercial
CD's, it will play a copied CD-R from a HP reader/writer...?

I would like to try to fix it myself, despite my lack of expertise, if
possible. I can't imagine paying big bucks to repair a rather dated
unit.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
