Emerson TV - No Volume

Dear Members,
I have a Emerson TV system and the volume control is not working. I
can watch movies through a VCR and a stereo system by connecting the
audio output from VCR to the stereo system. The quality of the picture
hasn't diminished a bit. I suspect the volume control or some device
for the same is not working inside the TV. If I connect the wire
leading to TV speaker to the stereo system speaker and increase the
volume in the Stereo system speaker, I can hear faint sound. I am not
able to find the solution to this problem. Please help me on this.

Many Emerson TVs have a generic audio output IC that can overheat.
Check the modulation level of the audio input to the IC to isolate the
failure.
