how do you unstick it so it can be pushed down to start recording a
phonegraph record. thanks

Do make certain that you are using a blank audio cassette tape that does not
have the "record protect tab" broken out. If in doubt, purchase a new
blank audio cassette.
Whatever you do, do not force the record button down. If you are still
having trouble seek the advice of a local repair shop.
