I've got a 6 year old Daewoo VCR that has two problems. The first problem
is that when I put in a tape, any tape, it plays for only about 2-3 seconds
and then just stops on its own. What is most likely the problem and how can
I fix it.

The second problem is that whenever I have the VCR turned on, the cable
signal is degraded quit a bit and the picture becomes very fuzzy. Any help
on these two problems would be greatly appreciated. Please E-mail directly
with any suggestions.

Thanx...

Rick

The stopping could be caused by the idler. I repaired a Daewoo that would stop
intermittently. Removing the idler assembly showed it was bowed (all plastic).
The heat got to it and it was available in MCM. Take Care, Kevin

If you're trying to tune cable channels with the TV's tuner when the VCR
is on, the TV/VCR switch (button on remote or VCR) must be in the TV
position. Many VCRs default to VCR position at power-up. When in VCR
position, it sends the VCR signal rather than the cable signal to your
TV. Any cable signal you see is due to signal leakage thru the
switching circuit. When in TV position, it sends the cable signal to
your TV, even though your VCR is on. This way you can watch one show on
your TV while the VCR is recording another show from its built-in tuner.

Hope this helps,

Mike

I took a closer look at the problem with the VCR stopping after a few
seconds of playback. I don't know all the terminology with this stuff so
please forgive me. I will describe what happens when looking down inside
from the front of the VCR. When I press play, the reel on the left turns
but the one on the right does not so the tape begins to get backed up for
about three seconds then the VCR notices that there is a problem and decides
to stop the tape. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please
email me directly.

Thanx

Your problem is the reel idler assembly. Replacement is best.

Your problem is probably a belt, your clutch or in the clutch area.

The exact model number of this VCR is DVR-5088N. Can someone send a
schematic of this VCR so I can try to fix it. Thank you.

Your second problem is most likely the fact that the VCR is set to the
wrong channel in the back. If your VCR is set to CH3 in the back, you
must leave your tv on CH3 in order for your signal to come thru clearly.
Same goes if your VCR is set to CH4. Just make sure, sometimes it's the
simplest of things...

As for your tape popping out, it may have somthing to do with how dirty
the heads are. Pop in a cleaning cassette and press "Rec", not "Play"
while cleaning. Then try it again. If tape still pops out on you, go get
it cleaned professionally.
