LOS ANGELES (AP) - It was a 1 in 183 chance for a once-in-a-lifetime
event: the public farewell to Michael Jackson. And for close to 9,000
fans, it has become a sure thing. Those fans have each been awarded
the chance to pick up two tickets to tomorrow's memorial in Los
Angeles. It only seemed fair that fans who registered on the Internet
for the shot at tickets went online to trumpet their good fortune.
When Deka Montanya of San Francisco got her e-mail telling her she had
won the Jackson lottery, she tweeted: "OMG OMG OMG OMG i got tickets
to the michael jackson memorial service!!!" She describes herself as
being "in shock."
IN THE NEWS: YAHOO MAKING MOVE AS ENTERTAINMENT PORTAL
SANTA MONICA, California (AP) - When you think of celebrity news
online, who comes to mind? TMZ.com, Google? People.com? Think again
It's Yahoo and its omg service. It has held the top spot for more than
a year. And it has done so, although it has a staff of only five
people - plus about a dozen or so people it borrows from other parts
of the Yahoo staff. The omg site puts a light, positive spin on
articles and other tidbits. Most of their offerings come from other
news organizations such as The Associated Press and Access Hollywood.
ON THE WEB: AND THE WINNERS ARE ...
CYBERSPACE (AP) - A bunch of major league baseball stars won't be
getting a 4-day break from the game later this month. But considering
that they've been invited to play in the All-Star Game, chances are
they aren't complaining. Albert Pujols was the top vote-getter for the
game, which will be played in his home ballpark in St. Louis. Other
stars voted in include Derek Jeter, Dustin Pedroia and four New York
Mets: Carlos Beltran, David Wright, Johan Santana and closer Francisco
Rodriguez. Beltran is hobbled by an injury and won't be able to play.
Once again, the league that wins the All-Star game will get home-field
advantage in the World Series.
