After visits from the cable company, an electrician, and the power company
did not solve the problem, I swapped the bedroom TV, which didn't buzz,
with the living room set, and discovered that the Magnavox buzzed in the
bedroom, and the other set (an Emerson) didn't buzz in either place. So,
obviously the problem is with the set. This was confirmed when the
repairman came to the house and without dropping his tools said that this
was a common complaint, and that there was indeed excessive noise (I
realize that most electronics emit SOME sound, but the other set is proof
the noise doesn't need to be so annoyingly loud). He claimed it was a set
design issue, and suggested I sit further from the television.
Luckily, the store where I bought the set agreed to exchange it for
another model, this time a Sanyo, but it too buzzes. Thus, I turn to the
group, with these questions:
1) Can anyone explain the "design issue" that would cause this buzzing
noise, and what I should look for in replacing the Sanyo? Are there
specifications (some voltage measurement or something) that I can avoid?
2) Is anyone aware of other brands which do not make such a loud buzz?
Is it an issue of the set's size (the one that didn't buzz is smaller -
19")?
3) If there is no way around buying a buzzing set, is there anything I
can do to diminish the problem, like a surge protector or something?
Please help. I am stuck, and I don't believe I should have to live with
this buzz for the life of the television. I will read the group for
responses, or you can e-mail me directly at either mtn...@aol.com, or
mmcc...@cablevision.com.
Thanks in advance - I am grateful for your assistance.

I've heard that sometimes the problem is that the speakers are to
close to the picture tube and the high voltages from the tube are
affecting the voice coils in the speakers.. Dunno for sure.
Any help?
