So somebody in Jim family owns a gun. Right wing nitwits are supposed
to own their own guns - that way, if they happen to experience a
suicidal though, they can blow their brains out before they've had
time to have second - less suicidal - thoughts.

I'm disappointed. I'm going to have to rely on Jim eating or drinking
himself to death.

It's called a vertical foregrip, makes it more of a combat assault rifle for quick reaction situations where the rifle cannot actually be aimed but must be slewed quickly and pointed at a target from the shoulder or hip. It's also supposed to give better control in automatic mode where the barrel will attempt to rise up off the aimpoint, but that shouldn't be a consideration here.
It is not a good rifle for a desert environment or any place where there is a lot of grit blowing around in the air.

Miso is a soup, and should be treated as such.

The whole Thompson family is historically prolific... "stiffness"
obviously never an issue (-:

No one is perfect. :)

I just flag all messages from that server, and see KILLFILE at the
start of the subject line. I drop them on most newsgroups, but there
are a few here that I do want to see. I've used all 100 entries in
Newsproxy, and need to recompile it for 1000 entries because of the
'Skippys' with multiple troll nyms. it would be simpler if Giganews gave
full headers, without downloading the messages. I've looked at some
software for a local news server but I haven't felt up to setting one
up. I have five spare server grade computers, at the moment so the
hardware is no problem. :)

I'm not so sure about that. I do own (and use) a couple of field-
hockey sticks, and they would trump a cap- or water-pistol.

A hockey stick isn't much use indoors, but it's heavy enough to break
a jaw or a forearm on a full swing.

It's not like a news server for a single user needs any special hardware
if you can wear the extra bandwidth in case of a disaster you only
need to backup the configursation settings.

I started out with "sn" but changed to "inn (1.x)" after about 6 months.

not having a real news feed I need to run something like "suck", I use
a homebrew analogue for historical reasons.

You must be thinking of the Pierces of Ouse, who were reputed to have
a lower than usual number of grandparents per grandchild.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouse,_Tasmania

The Tasmanians where I grew up had the usual four. I was born in
Tasmania (Burnie) but both my parents came from South Australia, and
all four grandparents lived there.

He was talking about the aboriginal Tasmanians.

Very little. There probably aren't any full-blooded Tasmanian
aboriginals left - and if there were they'd be mad to admit it.
