President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 for the second straight day, in what appears to be a rare case of "rebound" following treatment with anti-viral Paxlovid, the Associated Press reported. In a letter noting the positive test, Dr. Kevin O'Connor, the White House physician, said Sunday that the president "continues to feel well" and will keep on working from the executive residence while he isolates. Biden tested positive on Saturday, requiring him to cancel travel and in-person events as he isolates for at least five days in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The news comes as the daily average for new U.S. cases remains close to 130,000 a day, but not all data are being captured as many people are testing at home. The average stood at 123,553 on Sunday, according to a New York Times tracker, down 5% from two weeks ago. The daily average for hospitalizations rose to 44,389 up 8% in two weeks. The daily average for deaths is up 2% to 435. Globally, the confirmed case tally rose above 577.3 million on Monday, according to data aggregated by Johns Hopkins, while the death toll is above 6.40 million with the U.S. leading the world with 91.3 million cases and 1,029,926 deaths.

Paxlovid is combination of Pfizer's protease inhibitor and a much older drug that inhibits the liver from clearing it from the blood. It can be really harsh on the patient and that's why it's restricted to people who are at risk for very grave outcomes from COVID, and then for a just a few days. I recently had a med added to my regimen that attacked my liver (I
suspect) as I had side effects and stopped taking it. I had a reaction
the first night, but the said restart the following week and see if the
symptoms are still there. Well, they were, so I quit taking it. I
don't need to live like that through the full regimen they wanted me on
it for.
