Had so much to chat about, we're going to have to meet up several more
times just to cover the basics I think !
Anyway the venue closes late ( 2 pm ) and Kevin left about midnight.
So I went to my favourite place where you can see the band (good band
btw) quite well without being deafened plus it's handy for the bar and a
little while later, this cute blonde pushed in next to me to order a
drink.
Next thing I know, she made an offhand comment to me (girls do this -
it's their technique) and next thing we're chatting away nineteen to the
dozen.
Now, it was easy to tell she was quite young, but I wasn't expecting as
young as 23 ! (sort of been there before and really wasn't sure what to
do about nearly a decade ago). I don't think she was expecting me to be
54 either (she had me lined up as 40 something).
And the longer we were chatting, the more I realised she was absolutely
lovely ! Great looks, nice personality.
Mind you she was a bit ! drunk - but that's what let's your inhibitions
go.
Later she had to go for a wee and I suspect her friends picked her up
and got her home.
Now, she's told me where she works, and it's dead easy to go there.
She's a manager at a clothes shop that does both guys and gals clothing.
She called it the 'IKEA' of clothing and was wearing some herself and it
looked damn good to me.
Funny thing is..... I haven't been able to stop thinking of her since.
She has great taste in music and you know sometimes how you just 'click'
with someone. It can be almost instantaneous.
I have to say, it's raised my spirits a lot but what do you think of the
31 year age gap ?
Graham
The GAP is where you get cheap genes (oops..jeans) for a lot of money.
Too bad you didn't take her home. It might have been amusing to see
the look of horror slowly spread across her face the next morning as
she awakened in the harsh morning light and realized what she had
done. ;-)
Well, it's six years less age difference than Rupert Murdoch and his
wife Wendi, so there is concrete evidence that it can work in some
specialized circumstances.

Very physically mature for her age but you could still see the elements of the 12

The age difference will only really matter some time in the future.
Until then don't worry about it too much. There is no reason you

Don't show up at the "IKEA" too soon, you'll look rather desperate and
you may scare her away. Instead, go back to the bar and pick up where
you left off. If after a couple of weeks she doesn't turn up, take the
desperate route.

Be ready for her friends calling you "grandpa". I actually witnessed
this with a friend of mine and his much younger wife when we went to a

She did mention she's not a regular there, so the bar idea may not work. I
take your point about looking desperate though.

Owwww ! Fortunately I look younger than my actual years. No seriously visible
white hair yet and most of it's still there. I don't know if it was a joke or
not but guys behind the till have sometimes referred to me as 'young man' ! I
certainly don't mind.

If she's interested she might come back to the place just to meet you. Possibly
on the same day in a week more/less around same time.
So try to be there just in case.

You'll have to become a rather fast thinker when
dealing with these young gals. You'll have to forget
a lot of stories. Forget everything that makes you
that old. Meaning definitely no stories about what
great you did in the (pre-)80-ies in the presence
of people her age.

Considered that. I doubt it in this case. She's only ever been there 4 times. Your point is very valid aside
from that. I used to meet up regularly with other girls who were friends in other places too and I knew
they'd be there. LOL - that reminds me of a certain redhead !

Not too sure about reasonable shape (I was once quite slim) but I have more

I disagree. If she _volunteered_ the where-she-works info, then she wants
you to show up. So what if she thinks you're desperate and rejects you? If
you don't go, you still don't get the girl, so what do you have to lose?

It's not a sixth sense. Women notice watches, shoes, spectacles and other
accessories, and make rational deductions.
Men are less interested in the way that they and other present themselves,
concentrating more on stance and gesture, and don't realise what they are

Why Ronin?!
M
Of course it's a roll of the dice, but I can provide a little
supporting evidence.
A few years ago I was enrolled in a linguistics course at a nearby
university. I was surrounded by women half my age, and one in
particular caught my attention. I wasn't looking for an affair
(happily married) but this one was just too beautiful to ignore so we
got to know each other a little. We shared an interest in piano, so
one day I went to the business supply store where she had told me she
worked, used the self-serve copier to duplicate some sheet music,
walked over to her department and gave it to her. She looked mildly
embarrassed and later, in class, when I asked her if she'd tried
playing it, she airily dismissed the whole subject, claiming to have
left the copy at work, forgotten.
We didn't talk much after that.
Several weeks later I took my very cute 7-year old nephew to the local
bookstore to get him a story book. There she was again - working a new
summer job. She noticed us first, came over, reintroduced herself and
engaged me and the kid as though we were old friends.
Was it the passage of time? The cute kid? Take your pick.

Not a clue. That's just girls for you. Sometimes sex based relationships are much less
complex in comparison. There's no confusion about the intent.

I have something exactly like that in mind. Lunch would be good. I've
virtually planned it already. I just want some nice weather ideally to
complement it.

I've seen it, but it did not strike me so much at the time, maybe I should check it out again.

No argument there, great movie. I avoid dubbed movies like plague.
I understand some 90% of German, but writing and speaking is another matter :)
I just got the Stanley Kubrick DVD colection today, great stuff there.
My girl is an occasional movie critic.

What a horseshit excuse! England is notorious worldwide for having the
most miserable weather on Earth.
Get a Mac or a brolly and just DO IT! If you don't quit procrastinating
pretty soon, you might lose her.
Good Luck!

Well actually it was nice and sunny today. The Met Office said 17C.

Not sure whether to reply to that here or to another post. Ah there are some

Joe, thanks for an astonishly well though through piece of reasoning. You touched on some points that I think I instinctively
had at the back of my mind but you put them into words brilliantly.
Sadly it has all come to nought !

After watching the youtube vid above, I thought this might be the best post to post the update reply to.
Having plenty of free time today and it was a nice sunny day, I thought I'd wander into town and see if I could
find Alice. Found the shop where I thought she said she worked at but no sign of her, so I asked one of the
servers if Alice was around and she said "Oh you mean the blonde girl ? She works at the Hemel Hempstead shop not
the St Albans one". So that was a bit of wasted effort.
Wandered around town for a bit, shopping's not really my thing but checked out a few places.
Got home to check the shop's website and got a number for the Hemel shop. When I got round to ringing, I asked
for Alice and got put through. After the "hi, it's Graham", there was a clearly embarrased "Oh !" I reminded her
of our meeting and asked if I could phone some better time when she wasn't at work, to which she replied that
"it's wouldn't really be convenient".
Conclusion 1 IMHO - she already has a b/f.
Alternatively maybe when she sobered up she thought better of it, or perhaps she was just on a girls' night out
and fancied a bit of a flirt. The thing is - you just can't tell.
Anyway, so thanks all for your superb support and advice (unlike another group Allison deliberately maliciously
posted it to) but no result this time. Still, it's given me hope !

Not electronic theory, per se, but battery powered
devices often interest them... you have to ask, they
don't usually volunteer the information...

Why does your self-confidence need shoring up?

There are some interesting MAINS powered ones too. I forget how I found
this. Too much spare time probably.

Long story.
Incidentally some just average looking but pleasant girl moved in next to
me at the bar on Sat and said Hi or something and we had a short chat.
When I mentioned I was in the sound business and designed professional
sound equipment for live and recording and occasionally mixed bands I
swear you could actually see her pupils dilate. Her eyes definitely
changed.
Then some bugger called Paul I vaguely know saw an opportunity to push in
and ingratiate himself as 'my friend' too. I HATE it when guys do that. It
says they're very sad. And I'm sad it happened once before when this cute
blonde I'd had my eyes on for some time approached me one night and said
"I'd like to get to know more about you" - it doesn't get more direct that
that - and then this guy Matt did exactly the same thing and totally
destroyed the moment.

More like charity, I'd say.
Maturity is more like knowing what's appropriate to post in a technical
newsgroup, and some never-ending inane and slightly sickening drivel
about what makes your heart go pitty-pat certainly isn't.
An appropriate newsgroup would be soc.men, where your issues would be
more appreciated and dealt with.
But, poor baby, all you're looking for is attention, yes?

I'd be careful about sexual relations with someone so young. The age
difference could prove to be fatal.
But then, if she dies, she dies.
