Does anyone have recommendations for test equipment manuals that give
complete circuit diagrams for sampling circuits?

A few people seem to recommend these two to buy:-
HP 410 network analyzer
TEK s-5 plugin sampling head.

view them on the IBM site and download them at a reasonable cost.

At http://www.uspto.gov you can download any patent (at least the last
17 or so years' worth) for free.

Nice one.
Who knows, perhaps HP and TEK may one day wake up to just how valuable their
manuals are to aspiring elec Engineers and make them available online as
well.

It's better than that... you can now see patents from the 1700's at
www.uspto.gov.

This may not be in the same league as you're interested
in, but you might have a look at Hubert Houtman, "1-GHz
Sampling Oscilloscope Front End Is Easily Modified," in
the Ideas for Design section of Electronic Design for
Sept. 18, 2000. Probably available on the web...

For the record, this bibliography is an unattributed paste from Mark
Kahr's website. Mark is perhaps the world's expert on the history of
sampling oscilloscopes, going clear back to the electromechanical
devices from the 1800's.

The current version of his reference list is at...
