That's a big inductor. Depending on the current rating, the thing could
be pretty large. Inductors add in series, so if you can find a group of
other ones, say two 3H or six 1H you could certainly use those. All
Electronics Corp should have one sort or another.
But the first thing that came to mind is that perhaps you might try using
a center-tapped transformer as a center-tapped inductor. Just about any
heavy power transformer ought to have a few henries of inductance.
Measuring said inductance might be a bit of a challenge. If you don't
have an inductance measuring device, you can use the old trick of
connecting an audio or rf generator in series with a capacitor of known
value in series with the mystery inductance. Find the frequency where the
voltage across either the inductor or capacitor peaks and do the
appropriate algebra to find the inductance.
Fresonant= 1/((2*pi)(sqrt (L*C)).
It's quite possible that the actual inductance value isn't all that
critical.
