Hi,

I'm a beginner in embedded programming (Basic Stamp for now ;-) and am
getting frustrated at the number of iterations of upload-test-upload agin,
etc.
Does anyone know of software (that works!) which will simulate my code
running on a Basic Stamp before I upload it to the real chip?
I would also like to simulate along with some other parts like 7-seg
displays, push buttons, LCD's, etc. to make sure my logic is correct.
Here is a list of simulation software that I could find for the Basic Stamp,
but most of them don't work very well. The last one sounds good, but
I've never heard of Proteus Lite before and this emulator is dependant on
it. Has anyone used Proteus? How accurate are these emulators? Anyone
ever use any of them?

Thanks,

- John

While I have 3 Stamp-2s in a drawer, as well as several others like
Domino,PICs,etc. I've never used any simulators except the MPLAB one for the
PICs. Simulators are NOT the real thing! Depending who created the software
, there will always be some form of 'bug' or 'quirk' that is NOT in the REAL
project. Speed might be an issue, with respect to interrupts, I/O,etc.
Having come from a world where 'downloading' consisted of rethreading the
papertape into the PDP8I, I now view the time waiting for uploading to be
'contemplative'. Look aroud the bench, clean up,look at board configuration,
READ the manual and data sheets.( Amazing how much info is in there :-) )
If you want to 'spedd up' the process, buy another chip, and alternate them.
Gives you a 'hard' backup to compare new code to old ,allows you to test and
see what the new cersion is doing( or not), while you're programming the
next version.

In article <uvo38tl...@corp.supernews.com>, j...@mmeit.com
mentioned...

But isn't the way all programmers live life? All the time I hear the
dumps coming off the mainframe lineprinter. You can tell because it
sounds like a printer test: "NYEEEE-NYEEEE-NYEEEE..." That's just the
way it is:

Program <-.

Most of the highspeed non-laser printers are train printers. A bunch of
typeset characters looking like a train. You could change the set of
characters to get more of a common character in the train.

Don't you know what a lineprinter is? Each of the "NYEEEE"s he said
above is a WHOLE PAGE. DUH!
See http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lineprinter

----------------(from OED Mini-Dictionary)-----------------
PUNCTUATION - Apostrophe
Incorrect uses: (i) the apostrophe must not be used with a plural
where there is no possessive sense, as in ~tea's are served here~;
(ii) there is no such word as ~her's, our's, their's, your's~.

Confusions: it's = it is or it has (not 'belonging to it'); correct
uses are ~it's here~ (= it is here); ~it's gone~ (= it has gone);
but ~the dog wagged its tail~ (no apostrophe).
