Don't forget that soon after the Persian Wars, Sparta dealt with an earthquake
and a subsequent Helot revolt; classical historians claim Sparta besieged
Ithome for nearly ten years trying to suppress them. Similarly, they were
engaged in military conflicts with Tegea and the Argives (who at that time
had Themistocles with them) in the 470's. Also, the state of Arcadia
suddenly up and decided to form a league of their own. Clearly Sparta was
a bit too preoccupied with events in the Peloponnesus.
