Yes, I've heard of this stuff. The PG001 will fire a round of bullshit
out to a maximum range of about 17 feet.

This alloy was on the first and only cargo plane sent to fulfill cargo cult
expectations. Because it crashed upon landing, the program was ended early.
That was the entire stock.

Although a metal that's 15x stronger than steel would be impressive and
desirable, why would anyone think a machine gun would be improved by it?
Don't sell machine guns, sell the metal.

Ok a metal 15x stronger then steel. You don't metion its weight if it weighs
15x as much as steel I don't want to lug it around. But lets for the moment
assume that it has a weight equal to steel. There are much better uses then
guns. Guns work find the way they are, but areospace could use a few new
materials.

All guns use pressurized gas to fire there amunition. The gun powder burns
releasing gasses which force the bullet out to escape. Is Guineaum the name
of the new metal. We already have armor piercing rounds based on depleated
uranium, a very dense metal. Note these guns are 30 mm cannons. And second I
don't want a gun that is going to kill me after fireing 100 shots.

Metal does not mutate. Mutation suggests a living being. Since you metion
nuclear some materials decay, turning from one element or isotope into
another. As far as I know it does not work in reverse.

I don't know what to say here. I know some weapons are gas cooled. And what
is a back fire.

Are you thinking of the length of the bullet that comes out of the barrel or
the entire round. a .50 caliber round is over an inch long before fireing
and it can't penetrate a tanks armor. If you mean an inch wide then yes you
may hava an AP round but you wouldn't have a weapon you could carry around.
Overall your writting feels more like a spam internet ad then it does a
story. If that is the effect you are looking for you have captured it.

Another hint: if you want to discover a new metal in a mountain, that's
fine. But know when to stop giving the reader technical details. Think
of Star Wars versus Star Trek. In Star Trek they did a lot of talking,
and their scientific competence was obvious. In Star Wars they didn't
even try to explain how light sabers or energy shields or things of that
nature work, they just used them.

The Periodic Table doesn't have any gaps. Larry Niven has already
explored Puppeteer indestructible hulls. Amorphous alloys won't work
because gun barrels get hot - hot enough to sag in real world use.

Pentagonal alloys would get the job done. That is a matter of
engineering design, not exotica. HIP a Ti carbonitride
dislocation-pinned pentagonal alloy synthesized in an attritor like
oxide-pinned nickel superalloys. Or grow singel crystal gunbarrels
like high performance turbine blades.

That's bullshit. Liquid propellant and multiple explosion barrels
have been examined to death in the real world. You can buy off the
shelf standard rifles whose rounds are still supersonic 1000 yards
downrange. One shot, one kill. Most armed conflict occurs within
100-200 yards. The trend is toward small rounds and carrying more of
them, plus no more "full auto." A three shot burst is all that can be
justified in anything smaller than crewed weapon. If a million North
Koreans (aka Red Chinese) are storming your position, handheld weapons
won't save you. How many tons of bullets would you need to kill a
million soldiers? Lots. Use bigger stuff.

through armor plate, lubricating its way through. When it exits the

How thick do you think a long rod penetrator is? During the recent
rumble in Iraq we were taking out Iraqi armor with .30 cal depleted

i figure that if you can get one whoever per round, 30 tons should do it. It
depends upon the particular rounds used. One tank weighs more than that.

And that's why, IMO, Star Wars was not science fiction but rather an

And Star Trek isn't science fiction, either. But Planet of the Apes
was, even though the neat-o keen new rocket was never actually explained.

yea the ProGlow 001 , you through it in the enemies camp and even
before they can load it they get cooked. good idea.
similar to the strontium 90 campfire set we had for sale, seems none
of those were ever brought back either.

The piercer of choice is the self forging
penetraters... A shaped charge is wrapped
around a tungsten carbide core that, as the round
gets close to target, explodes and forges a
dart that impacts at terminal velocity plus
the kinetic kick of the HE forging and directing
the dart into the target. The impact of the dart
can be 10 times the projectile velocities....

These are also used in the multiple independently
magnetically targeting sub munitions fired from
120mm pieces and air dropped canisters...

These beauties separate from the main munitions
and deploy chutes on each one. Just above the targets
the explode and forge a dart that hits armor from
above ( weakest areas) ... Each sub munitions has a
magnetic sensor that aims the dart independently and
can take out up to 6~10 tanks over a football field area
in one shot....

What's really kewl is when you mix a batch of the self
forgers with anti personnel mines and cluster canisters
in a cruse missile and fly it over the battle area and
hit the tanks... keep going to lay a mine field... keep going
and cluster fuk the HQ and then fly on to impact their
HE war head into a nice fat munitions factory...

I once saw Star Wars compared almost scene by scene to
a particular western (including the scene where the hero
finds his relatives' ranch burned out by the bad guys)
but I can't remember what the title was. It was a very
close match.

I'd like to see the science fiction version of "Once Upon A Time in the
West".

I think we all want another science fiction film with real meaning and I
know what it can be based on: the computer game "Star Craft". A "2001"
style interpretation of the background and events of this game is what
the world is waiting for.

Steel if very much naturally occuring. Since all it is
a little bit of carbon stuck in a Chinese work farm.

Aren't some meteroites made out of stainless steel like alloy? Ask Eskimos

Well, maybe you could look up single-walled carbon nanotubes. They have a
great deal of tensile strength, but they're still pretty expensive.
