What I'm getting at is this:
I've run many Grignard reactions and the cautions I've found are generally
overstated as pertains aryl and alkyl Br Mg etherates..if bright Mg is used
moisture has not been as much of an issue as implied in many texts and
safety manuals.
For example, with LAH, how dry is dry enough for the THF. Starting with
"dry" THF in a fresh bottle, what do I really need to do before mixing the
LAH in?
Can the reaction be run in air or do I have to use N2? (not a big deal)
Other cautions and practical advice?
Thanks,
