We want to connect out HP 3396A integrator to a Personal Computer
(by means of the RS-232-C interface). Our aim is to store
integrator files onto the PC's harddisk. We are about to write the
necessary programs. However, if someone has already written such
programs and wants to share these with us it would save us some
time.
Also other suggestions and experiences on the coupling of
HP integrators to PC's are very welcome.
Please help and thank you all,

Hello Jan,
maybe the easiest solution to your problem would be to contact your
local Hewlett-Packard office and ask them for a software
package called "PEAK 96". It allows you to store your 3396-files
on a PC's harddisk, you can reintegrate them or make new plots with other
settings of e.g. attenuation or chart speed. A drawback is that you can
only use the 3396 itself for graphics output, which is a little time
consuming....For better output, you may use the options to export the
files into Ascii- or the HP ChemStation-Format.
I worked with the package for some years and was quite content
with it. Well, it can't compete with a ChemStation, is not very
comfortable to use, but it is much better than a stand-alone HP 3396
integrator. As a somehow old-fashioned MS-DOS software, you may even
run it on an old 286...

Contact HP - they used to have such programmes available
free as part of a user contributed library, and in some of the
technical manuals, they even included all the necessary
code.

In the past I've connected HP3392s and HP3388s to PCs.
Worked OK, and the files could easily be transferred
to spreadsheets. I'd suspect a nice, friendly word to
your local HP Analytical support person should provide
the necessary routines.

try to get it to communicate to the "Terminal" applet in the Windows
"Accessories" group. if you can, you can then save the data to disk, or
copy it to a spreadsheet.
good luck,
