The solution to junk email
If you have received junk email, like most of the rest of the internet
users, you are probably wondering where the junk emailer got your email
address. The primary resource is Usenet and maillist servers. Junk
emailers use software to pick up email address's from Usenet and then do
mass emailers to those people. You've seen them..."how to make a
million
dollars in two months for only $49.95". It seems that of every five or
so,
one of them turns out to be interesting...but the rest are sometimes
pretty
irritating. The problem is that junk email doesn't work because if you
ever
try to reply or contact the emailer, their mail box is either full or
shut
down from complaints. I believe that people are more offended by junk
email
than by postal mail. It's a strange phenomenon, because logically, one
would think that junk postal mail would be more irritating...you get the
mail, you open it, you throw it out and another tree gets chopped down.
With Email, you just push the trash button and life goes on. For those
truly addicted to the internet, they welcome email...any email,
including
the junk (be aware that if you enjoy junk email you are probably
addicted to
the net :-) ).
So what's the solution? The solution is to have multiple email
address's...One for you professional life and one for your personal
life.
You may even contemplate a third email address for a "public" life. In
this
manner, you can elegantly separate your email and the junk mail wont
show up
at times when you don't want it. It's a little more time consuming this
way, but the effort pays off if you have junk email phobia.
If you have had problems reaching our web site recently, it's probably
our
fault. We've shifted our web site from no less han four different
computers
in the last few weeks and are moving it one more time this week to yet
another computer (which should be it's final home). Our down time is
less
than 2% over the course of the last month.
