The recent problems with talk.origins has led to a number of "refugees" from
that group to this forum, apparently following the advice of TO's most
prominent "dissident". It isn't necessary to enumerate these formerly rare
visitors to see which are here not for any interest or knowledge of paleontology.

I appeal to those who care to ignore those posters whose intentions are
entirely destructive, believing that attention is what they seek, and I hold hope
that if it's denied, they may tire of their sport. As for the instigator of this
situation, I have no words.

As one of TO's "refugees", I regret invading SBP. As you may know, I
have posted here rarely, but lurk regularly, and am not completely
ignorant of SBP politics.

You describe above those who seek attention for the sake of it. They
are the Usenet equivalent of parasites. If I attracted them here, I
regret that also. Either way, I will most likely return to lurk mode
once TO is back online.

You also describe above "TO's most prominent dissident". If you mean
the persona I think you mean, he has also regularly "dissidented" in
SBP for quite awhile. My impression is that's in part because some
SBP posters sometimes not only give him the attention he seeks, but
also sometimes aid, abet and mimic his parastic behavior.

Given that, TO's parasites are but incremental additions to SBP's
woes, and almost certainly will go away soon whether or not they are
ignored. Just think of me and them as the Usenet equivalent of
herpes.

As a kinda compromise maybe a cordoned t.o. related thread? I do think
Peter makes a good point toward having a clearinghouse for info on the
status of Beagle or progress toward talk.origins coming back online,
especially if anyone has heard anything from DIG.

Alt.atheism might be another adjacent venue, but last I looked at that
place I was horrified by what I saw, pure anarchy and chaos. I could see
your not wanting that sort of mess here.
