Marine Fish Farms

Is any body actually running a marine fish farm?
We have plans to set one up in NSW Australia.
We intend to use the species "Snapper" or Red Sea Bream.
Has anybody farmed this species or run a hatchery for this
species?

Dear John Edser:
I understand that about 1/2 of the salmon consumed world wide are the
product of salmon farms. There are successful salmon farm operations on
the coast of British Columbia Canada, Washington State USA, Norway and
growing farms on the west coast of South America. Salmon farms are
outlawed on Alaska waters, therefore the farms must be successful.
I am sure many of the methods used in salmon farms would apply to other
species also.

Most of the aquaculture in Texas (by value) is marine. The primary
crop is penaed shrimps, but oysters and finfish are also cultured here.
The primary finfish is red drum (Scianops ocellata) but the euryhaline
species, hybrid striped bass (Morone spp.) is also cultured in salt
and/or brackish water. Many species are being investigated, but the
redfish is the main one now.

fish production covers salmon (80,000 tonnes) rainbow trout, turbot, halibut and
experiments in other species. In the Med they reasr sea bass and sea bream.
Canada is experimenting with cod, haddock, wolf fish but to name a few.
