Praying Mantis Laws

I have always heard, and so has everyone else I talk to, that it is against the
law to keep, injure or kill a praying mantis, because of their beneficial role
in eating other insects. I wanted to know if this was an urban myth or
actually true, and if it is a national thing or by state. I live in PA. I found
one yesterday, and it was spectacular. (I let it go after showing to the kids.)

The praying mantis is the state insect of Connecticut, and when this same
question came up a couple of months back, I did a search of the CT statutes.
I was unable to find any specific law or reference about protecting or
preserving this highly entertaining, beneficial, attractive creature.
