unable to soften stag beetle?

I caught a stag beetle a couple of weeks back and stored it in denatured
alcohol. The idea was to remove and pin it later, but I have been
trying to relax it and have been unable to. I've been trying to steam
the beetle on an inverted cup in a stove pan near boiling, but after
many minutes, the legs are still stiff. Any idea how long this takes?
I also tried a relaxing chamber-- damp sponge with a couple of moth
balls-- but not a bit looser even after overnight.

Any ideas would be welcome.
