We thought it would be in your interest to know that biologists have performed
well in the Pirelli INTERNETional Award, since 1996 the first international multimedia
award for scientific and technological subjects entirely carried out on the Internet,
awarding more than 50,000 Euros each year.
In fact, Gisele Grinevicius Garbe from Brazil won Third prize in 1999 with "Human
Sexuality" an informative Website on Human Sexuality (http://virtual.epm.br/cursos/sexhum/sexualid.htm).
In the same edition, the University of Guelph (Canada) was awarded the Prize
for the School Section with "Mammals, Amphibians and Reptiles of the Great Lakes,"
a multimedia description of the freshwater lake system of the Canadian Great
Lakes (http://www.aquatic.uoguelph.ca/adverts/armt.htm). The Professional Institute
"A. Ponti" of Gallarate, Italy won the Prize for the School Section in 1998 with
"Microbiologia e Storia" a Web site on microbiology and history (http://www.gallarate.it/ipsia/Pirelli98/index.htm).
The school G. Galilei of Trieste, Italy won the Prize for the School Section
in 1997, with "drugs and their effects" a multimedia product on the effects of
various drugs on the human brain.
Adelaide Pulvirenti of Italy won Second prize in 1996 with "Biolichens", a multimedia
product on lichens as bioindicators.
