Some authorities give 7 stages to the Great Work of alchemy. In other
schemes, there are 12.
Here's a basic list of correspondences to the 12 zodiacal signs, Tarot,
and corespondences to the 12 tribes of the spiritual Israel of the book of
revelation:

Aries: Calcination, the tribe of Gad, The emperor
Taurus: Congelation, the tribe of simeon, The Heirophant
Gemini: Fixation, the tribe of Ephraim, The lovers
Cancer: Separation, the tribe of Zebulon, The Chariot
Leo: Digestion, the tribe of Judah, Strength
Virgo: Distillation, the tribe of Naphtali, The Hermit
Libra: Sublimation, the tribe of Asher, Justice
Scorpio: Putrefaction, the tribe of Dan, Death
Sagittarius: Incineration, the tribe of Benjamin, Temperance
Capricorn: Fermentation, the tribe of Issachar, The Devil
Aquarius: Dissolution, the tribe of Manasseh, The star
Pisces: Multiplication, the tribe of Reuben, The Moon

I would put Saturn or Jupiter (because it corresponds to Emperor) with
'calcination'. This is usually given as the first stage of the opus, , and
has to do with overcoming the inertia of Saturn, the inertia of karma/past
lives/ego/the lower instictual animal self etc, etc. Then again, it may be
associated with earth. Better to ask alt.astrology what they think about the
rest. It also depends on the Tarot associations. Alot of people into alchemy
would probably be using the Crowley/Harris 'Thoth' deck, but a better option
(with much cuter paintings) would be Paul foster Case's deck (The builders
of the Adytum). Paul Foster Case apparently completed the Great Work, so it
may be better to go on what he says about the subject.

Later,
Cosm
