Friction moved scopes don't work below a certain mass, i.e., the base will likely shift if you try to use the bearing in the base. Moot anyway, it's more a decoration.

Grotesque extra bulk for nothing. Dob mounts were designed originally for LARGE (10 inch plus) telescopes so they could have a relatively light-weight, low-to-the-ground and inexpensive
mounting. Small scopes should be on fork mounts or equatorials.

Made for kids, who has a hard time to understand EQ or fork mounts, I guess?
DOBs are very simple to use and intuitive!!

The mount to choose for a small telescope depends purely on the preferences of the owner. Alt-az mounts are better for portability and quick set up. They can be, and usually are, more stable.
