Maybe I missed the announcement here but apparently a
new theater movie is coming out about the storm Todd
Gross covered in a television special a couple of years ago.

In fact he is being played by Christopher McDonald in this
movie.

The movie is called "The Perfect Storm."

I wonder if they will have Christopher McDonald stargazing
with exotic telescopes and shooting fantastic color images of
Jupiter? :^)

Maybe they will show him buying one of every telescope ever made.

Didn't know the movie was about Todd. Will have to check it out.

I thought Tom Cruise was playing his part. :)

I'm really looking forward to this movie incidentally. The book was
amazing, I couldn't put it down!

I can see it now. Christopher McDonald (Todd) opens his garage door
(music swells) and reveals a sea of telescope tubes and mounts. Later
he gets a call on his cellular phone: "Something is brewing in the Atlantic."
(Music goes: Da Dumm!!!) "Wait a minute," he exclaims, "I must finish the
next few images. The great Spot on Jupiter doesn't look quite right yet..."

Me too, I am definitely going.. All kidding aside, the television special
was excellent. I'm sure the movie will will be a great story. Congratulations
to Todd.

You know, meteorologists are accustomed to being in front of TV cameras- why
couldn't he just play himself? They could pay him in telescopes and
eyepieces. (just a little jealous of Todd). I caught the Storm of the
Century on TLC and it was amazing.

When I suggested it I didn't hear back
from them for 6 mos. , so I kept my trap
shut. Keven Spacey and William H. Macy
passed on the role. Christopher does a
great job from the trailer.... :)

thank all!

Actually, it was 1991, and I wasn't quite at that point ;) However, that is
much the way it is in 2000, no kidding!

Thanks much for posting this Rockett!! I understand that they lob a few real
zingers at me in the movie so that should make it all the more enjoyable (for
those that want to give me a hard time :) )
