That is not a question Sam,it is a declaration that nature is 'weird'
which in turn is one of the main reasons that astronomy plays such a
small role in the thinking of the wider community and in the education
system.Given half a chance people will get involved in astronomy and
imaging,the Canadian astronaut and his ability to converse on a
popular level is a testament to that but this 'quantum physics' s is
designed to uphold the salaries and reputations of those promoting
them rather than any validity to the topics themselves.I would have
thought that quasicrystal growth would ring a few bells that
background conditions for their growth exclude the possibility of
either/or states at a local level but that is not weird,it is just
interesting and puzzling -

Not weird but a 'method in the madness' so to speak just as the
article rightly admits where efficiency and beauty extends throughout
nature.
