INAH has begun work to protect the Olmec murals dated at 300-800 CE at
Chalcatzingo. 100 staff are cleaning, restoring and investigating at
the site. The University of Florida will digitize the designs with
state of the art technology. Chalcatzingo was inhabited as early as
1500 BCE. And by 800 BCE, an urbanized area appeared with sculptures,
platforms, palaces and extensive dwellings. The idea of Teotihuacanos
living there has now been discounted by way of ceramic analysis and
architecture.
