"A site is excavated, crumbling foundations unearthed, potsherds
analyzed, all towards the goal of conveying the fullest, most vivid
image possible of how a place looked once upon a time. Well, the
archaeology department at UC Berkeley has brought a whole new meaning
to this objective, using the online virtual-reality game Second Life."

-----

"The purpose of archaeology is to reimagine how people lived in the

Would you amplify on why you like the idea?
Does the idea have educational potential? I think so.

There is something to that, expanding the range of human behavior so far
into the past to illuminate what sorts of changes we can expect in our
own futures.

Along with reconstructing how people lived is reconstructing cosmology.
Which Hodder, "The Leopard's Tale" reports at Chatal Huyuk, with Western
women coming there on spiritual pilgrimage to revere the Goddess.

He expresses some concern about the reaction of local Muslims.
