Two levels of the great base of Cacaxtla have been uncovered by INAH.
The base dates to 600-950 CE. It is bigger then thought as it was
built one stage above the other. Cacaxtla was occupied by the Olmeca-
Xicalanca to the south for its strategic position between the Gulf and
the Central Highlands. Not many artifacts were found in this
excavation. A large urn stands out. The site is also undergoing
environmental conservation maintenance.
