UNAM archaeologist Arturo Pascual Soto, director of the Institute of
Aesthetic Studies at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico
(UNAM) has announced that El Tajin has been found to be older than
thought and dates back to 300 BCE. El Tajin served as a Totonac
capital in the post-Classic era. INAH is working on uncovering the
earlier phases of El Tajin history including full murals that are
buried as well as structures and this will require large labor input
to excavate and recover.
