In a follow up story to the find of 3 skulls at the Sacsayhuaman site
in Cusco that I posted this morning, the director of the site says the
skulls could be those of enemy chiefs. This was a practice of the
Incas in their late empire. They are looking now for the bodies of the
3 to see if they were enemies who were decapitated.

Three funeral offerings have been found at the Sacsayhuaman site in
Cusco. 3 skulls inside a ceramic vessel with ceremonial dishes. In the
2nd, a man of 45 years with a ceremonial knife and ceramics and the
3rd are the remains of a boy of 3.
