We often had trouble with white skinned varieties if the ground had not
cooled off enough before the crop was lifted.
Some varieties like to sit for up to two months in cool storage before
handling.
40 degree Fahrenheit was about right before digging begins.

Hi Virgil,
Thanks for the help. It could be that the crop (Nicola seed for export
to Israel) just needs a bit longer in store to harden off.Do you use
any method to test skin strength prior to lifting or grading?
Also do you know of any method of warming potatoes prior to grading?
