Dear friends,

We would like to invite you for the upcoming event of the Students
Discussion Forum, the details of which are given below:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Topic : Climate change over various timescales
Speaker : S. Rathnakumar
Abstract : We are being told that climate change at present is dominantly
driven by rising levels of carbon dioxide. How scientifically robust this
claim is? What are the alternative views? Our planet goes through cycles
of ice ages with a period of about 100,000 years. What causes them? Our
planet also goes through ‘hothouse’ and ‘icehouse’ conditions on
timescales of hundreds of millions of years. Could this be related to the
motion of our Solar System in and out of the spiral arms of our home
galaxy?
