I was wondering if the swimming pool is beneficial or not?  Nathan is taking swimming lessons.  He is really afraid of the water, but the lessons are helping him so he's not so scared.  He enjoys himself but I notice he gets really stiff when he gets out of the water.  Anyone's thoughts on that?

Hi Tammy,

I've found that any type of exercise is good but exercise in water is
really helpful, warm water especially so. I've also noticed that I am
stiff after being in the pool. I attribute this to both muscle fatigue
and SJS. My muscles get stiff for a while whenever I do vigorous
activity. The stiffness does eventually calm down.

thanks,
aaron

I agree with Aaron. Swimming will def. help with his fear as well as
his muscles. The water gives a slight resistance, which makes it an
ideal workout routine for weaker muscles. I like to swim, although I
cannot do it for long periods. I cannot tread water to save my life,
but I can float on my back for a LONG time and do the breast stroke
for a short distance (although I'm sure if I practiced I could do it a
lot longer). It is always fun to do things there than I can't do on
land either - like do handstands and backflips! I also am stiff when I
get out of the pool because of the excercise and the temperature
change. I always get cold when I get out of the pool and the coldness
makes my muscles stiffen until they reach the same temp.

You're doing a great job! It's def. going to boost his confidence when
he can swim across the length of the pool :)
