TakbeerTV is a free-to-air Islamic TV Channel based in the United Kingdom. It can be viewed on Sky channel 749 as well as online and by certain satellite services. It was launched at a time when other Islamic channels were also being established.[1]

Takbeer TV Channel's aim is to provide, represent and promote a positive outlook of Muslims & Islam and to act as an interface between Muslims & non-Muslims in order to remove the misconceptions people have about Islam.[2]

Takbeer TV offers educational, current affairs, and entertainment programmes from an Islamic perspective. In October 2011, the channel began to air programming from Dawn News.[3] Dawn News covers eighteen hours a day of the schedule, featuring news, current affairs shows such as 'News Night with Talat', 'Kab Tak' and 'Baat Nikaly Gee' and other shows e.g. 'Mast Morning With Maira', 'Sport Zone', 'A Taste of Fusion', '92[Identity]', 'Equinox' etc.

In 2010 Ofcom received a complaint regarding the alleged abusive treatment towards the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Ofcom asked the licensee on several occasions to provide the recording for review. The licensee did not provide the recording and the channel was held in breach of broadcasting regulations.[4] Takbeer TV has also been reprimanded by Ofcom for "inciting violence" against Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.[5]

A bedug is a huge wooden double-barreled drum with water buffalo leather on both sides. At each daily prayer the bedug will be played before the adzan (call for prayer) is recited. The size of the bedug usually depends on the size of the mosque. Some large mosques have a bedug larger than 5 foot in diameter. Due to the size, its sound travels very far. Before the era of loud speakers, this was how the Indonesian Muslims notified their community that it's time to pray.

In mosques a bedug is accompanied by a kentongan, a slit drum made from wood or bamboo. Before the adzan is recited, the muadzin (who calls the prayer) will play the kentongan first then play the bedug.

In the past, a kentongan was not only used to call for prayer but also used to call a meeting, as an early warning system, as a clock, and other types of community notifications. In order to do that, a kentongan was attached to the village office and security guard posts. It would be played to warn the villagers in case there was any emergency like theft, robbery, or natural disasters. If there was no emergency, a kentongan was played every hour to notify villagers about what time it was because watches were pricey and considered luxury items. Each security post acted as a messenger, so all villagers received the messages even if they were far from the originator of the messages (other security posts or village offices). By recognizing the rhythm of the kentongan, villagers would know the time, if there was an emergency, a town-hall meeting, or a death.

One can perform Eid Namaz in the same way as in the masjids. In masjid, Imam delivers the khutbah (sermon) of Eid, which is not allowed when the namaz is performed at home. It is similar to a regular namaz other than the Takbeer.

During Takbeer, one has to say "Allah hu Akbar" while raising the hands to the ears in the namaz. Allah hu Akbar, the Arabic word which means Allah is great. During the regular namaz, 'takbeer' is recited only once, but for the Eid namaz, Takbeer has to be repeated 6 times in two rakats.

3. Now recite 'Sana' surah and say Allah hu Akbar three times (Three Takbeers). For the first two takbeers, you lift your hands till ear lobes and release them, and after the third takbeer fold your hands again like in regular namaz position. After this, recite Surah Fatiha and one surah of your choice as you do during regular namaz. Then, perform sajda twice and come back to standing position.

4. Then, you begin the second Rakat recite Surah Fatiha and one surah of your choice. After you finish the second Rakat, say Allah hu Akbar but don't go into ruku, raise your hands and release your hands three times. Fourth time say Allah hu Akbar and go to sajda. Finish your namaz like you always do. Make supplication after you finish your namaz.

During Ramadan, Muslims observe fast for 30 days. However, sometimes the moon is sighted on the 29th or 30th day of Ramadan. This year, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday, May 14, as the crescent could not be sighted today.
