I attended private school as a child. I never minded wearing a
uniform. I never had to worry about what I was going to wear or what
my friends were wearing. I think more schools should try it.

Hello,
I agree 100% that students need to wear school uniforms. I am a
school teacher and have seen how students react to other students and
what they have on. It would keep down on students joking on other
students because of what they have on. If all the students have on the
same colors, that can also decrease gang violence dealing with what
colors a student may wear.

Nonsense! If students are byllying other students for what they wear, then there is something seriously wrong with the school in the first place and uniforms will not remedy this. Such bullying is a symptom of negligence by school management and staff. Introducing school uniforms will only make the bullies pick on something else, such as the brandname of another student's cellphone, watch or sunglasses. If there is an inherent atmosphere of bullying in school, then something should be done about that. Introducing school uniforms will unnessecarily focus more attention on things like body shape and color, thus making some students more likely to be targets for bullying that could have been avoided if people were allowed to wear what they wanted.

Also, school uniforms don't decrease gang behavior, they actually nurture it. Dressing up students in the "colors" of the school, raising the flag and making students parade up and down, making them sing anthems and pledges and at the same time inspecting their uniforms, it all has the look of a military "school" where young people are drilled into becoming canon fodder and mindless robots that will follow orders without conscience. Making students compete in sport-teams with other schools creates the false view that victory over another gang justified a physical fight and it glorifies fighting against people who wear different colors.

School uniforms deny students opportunities to express themselves through their choice of clothing, which is important for their development as a person and for the development of their creative talents. School uniforms fly in the face of the values that we cherish.
